Clay Stobaugh is Wiley’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. He leads Wiley’s revenue-driving marketing initiatives through key disciplines in the global Marketing Revenue Center. These disciplines include:

• Digital analytics and search engine optimization (SEO)
• Digital commerce
• Sales enablement
• Search engine marketing (SEM), and
• Social media
• A/B testing
Clay is focused on developing customer relationships and driving new revenue opportunities; he has helped to lead the digital capabilities that transformed Wiley from a traditional book publisher to a global provider of digital content and content-enabled solutions. In 2015, under Clay’s leadership, Wiley’s Marketing Revenue Center was honored with the prestigious Brandon Hall* Award for “Best Learning Program Supporting a Change Transformation Business Strategy”.
A key component of Wiley’s digital transformation has been Clay’s focus on the mindset, skill sets and tool sets required by marketers to be leaders in their field. It is Clay’s role to not only provide these tools, but also articulate a clear vision in regards to how Wiley’s employees should make use of them to be effective, ‘modern marketers’. As these marketing tools are often complex and expensive, a critical component to Wiley’s successful transformation has been the award winning training and certification program introduced by Clay. This program covers marketing disciplines such as Social Marketing, Customer Experience, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Digital Analytics, is 100% on demand and available to Wiley employees, worldwide. Clay and Wiley’s Marketing Revenue Center received the Brandon Hall award just one year after the certification program was launched with several hundred employees already actively enrolled.
Clay Stobaugh is a passionate marketing leader that loves to connect and engage with like-minded individuals and organizations. As a result, Clay often speaks at different conferences and events to help inspire, educate, and advocate marketing as a necessary pillar for any organization. Recently, Clay has been keynote speaker at leading industry events such as the Oracle Cloud Marketing Launch, BrightEdge’s Share conference, the 2015 Book Expo of America, Argyle Forum: Leadership In Digital Marketing and Gartner’s Digital Marketing Conference. In addition, Clay was named a Performance CMO by Harvard Business Review and also serves on the CMO Advisory Board of North America.
Before Clay joined Wiley in 2005, for ten years, he led emerging technology companies in the legal, financial, and healthcare industries to successful financial exits and generated over $200 million in shareholder payouts. Clay’s passion for learning and education led him to raise capital and launch MainXchange, an organization focused on the financial education of young people. Clay also served in senior management roles for Reuters and Nestle Switzerland, where he successfully launched the Nespresso division in the United States.
Clay earned his BA from Tulane University and his MBA from Harvard Business School. A Certified Sommelier, he is also a life-long collector of French wines.
